Heterotrophic nutrition is of three types -

  • saprophytic ( Saprotrophic )
  • parasitic
  • holozoic

Define :-

saprophytic

》Saprophytes are organisms that can't make their own food. In order to survive, they feed on dead and decaying matter. Fungi and a few species of bacteria are saprophytes.

  • Examples - Indian pipe.

parasitic

》A parasitic relationship is one in which one organism, the parasite, lives off of another organism, the host, harming it and possibly causing death. The parasite lives on or in the body of the host.

  • Examples of parasites are tapeworms, fleas, and barnacles. The fleas, in turn, get food and a warm home.

holozoic

》Holozoic nutrition is the type of nutrition in which an organism takes the complex organic food materials into its body by the process of ingestion; the ingested food is digested and then absorbed into the body cells of the organism.

  • Example - Amoeba, Humans, Dog, Cat, etc.
