Question:

Determine whether (x-2) is a factor f the polynomial P(x) = 3x^2 +6x - 24.

Solution:

Let,  \implies x - 2 = 0

Then,  \implies x = 2

So,

 p(x) = {3x}^{2} + 6x - 24

 \implies {(3)(2)}^{2} + 6(2) - 24

 \implies {6}^{2} + 12 - 24

 \implies 36 + 12 - 24

 \implies 48 - 24

 \implies 24

Hence,

The Answer is 24

Step By step Solution★

To Find Whether (x-2) is a factor of given polynomial.

So, g(x) = X-2

=> X-2 = 0

=> X = -2

Substituting the value of X in P(x)

=> p(x) = 3(-2)² + 6(-2) - 24

=> p(x) = 12 -12- 24

=> p(x) = -24

So, As P(x) 0

Therefore X -2 is not a factor of given Polynomial.....
