The strategy of using picture cards and flashcards for learning and teaching a language or subject is called as the picture word inductive model (PWIM).
Teachers use this method by using pictures of familiar objects and actions to elicit words from children's listening and speaking vocabularies, in classrooms, groups etc. This method also helps the children to improve their ability to think.

Similar methods can be used to build sentences for higher classes and for learning a new language.
