Farmer and three sons

Once there was a farmer who had three sons. The sons were always fighting and none of them toiled the land. The old man became sick and was on his death-bed. He was worried about his sons.

Bundle of sticks

One day he called his sons to him and gave them each a bundle of sticks and told to break it. The sons tried hard but could not break the sticks.

Now he asked them to remove the sticks from the bundle and to break it. The sons were able to break the sticks easily. He explained to them, the need to stay united and work harder. The sons understood about unity. Soon their father died.

Unity is strength

The sons toiled the land together and reaped a good harvest. Thus they realized the importance of their father's words and exclaimed "He rightly said in unity lies strength"
