Psychologists generally define forgiveness as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness. ... Forgiveness does not mean forgetting, nor does it mean condoning or excusing offenses.

More information :

Forgiveness is for our own growth and happiness. When we hold on to hurt, pain, resentment, and anger it harms us far more than it harms the offender. Forgiveness frees us to live in the present. Reliving the wrong that was done to us keeps us living in the past and missing today's beauty

Answer:

Forgiveness is defined as letting go of past grudges or lingering anger against a person or persons. When you are mad at someone but you then accept his apology and are no longer mad, this is an example of forgiveness. Psychologists generally define forgiveness as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness.

THE STORY THAT I LEARNT THE TRUE MEANING OF FORGIVENESS IS A LIFE EXPERIENCE

Last year on my best friend's birthday,She offended me last two weeks the crime was so painful that i could not attend my best friend's birthday not knowing it would be the last birthday for her.

Her Birthday was on a Friday, but she celebrated it on a Saturday. I was annoyed with her,I did not attend her last birthday party. She was a nice and loving person,so when she offended me i could not see for once because it was a hard pain to take in. She thought it was a joke that i said i will not attend her birthday party but on Saturday when she saw i didn't attend she knew i was not playing.Even though ,i said "I forgive you",It was not pure forgiveness otherwise known as true forgiveness. She eat food in her party with too much salt and sugar which lead to Excess sodium and diabetes. It was so much that it led to heart failure, which lead to death.

In the end, I learnt it wasn't good to hold grudges and from then on I learnt how to truly forgive people.
