The term 'Renaissance' is derived from old French word renaistre meaning 'to be born again'.
Renaissance in European history refers to the period of great social and cultural change that took place between the 14th and 17th centuries ago.

After the invention of printing press invented in Germany, by Gutenberg, books became available to more readers. In order to reach out to a lager readership. Writers started to translet Latin and Greek to vernucular languages.
During the middle ages, superstition, misery and prejudice were prevalent. The church controlled education. The knowledge imaprted by it was accepted, without questions the authority.
A number of scholars however started to discard the medieval beliefs and develop a spirit of enquiry among the people. They pleaded against the supremacy of church, which till then had played an important role in the lives of common people.
