Answer:

He had purchased x = 87.80 number of apples.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the no. of apples bought be x

Cost of one apple = ₹ 5

Therefore, cost of x apples = ₹ 5x

Profit = 20%

Therefore, S.P. = (1+p/100) C.P.

= (1+20/100) C.P.

= (1+1/5) C.P.

= 6/5 × 5x = 6x

Again,

Since, the number of bananas is equal to the number of apples

Therefore, no. of bananas = x

Cost of one banana = ₹ 2

Therefore, cost of x bananas = ₹ 2x

Loss = 5%

Therefore, S.P. = (1-l/100) C.P.

= (1-5/100) C.P.

= (1-1/20) C.P.

= 19/20 × 2x = 19x/10

Overall profit = ₹ 360

Therefore, 6x-19x/10 = 360

Or, 60x-19x/10 = 360

Or, 41x/10 = 360

Or, x = 3600/41 = 87.80.(answer).

Answer=

he purchased 87.80 apples.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the apple be x

and banana be y

Cost price of all apples =5x

Cost price of all bananas = 2x

Profit on apples is 20%

Loss on bananas is 5%

Selling price of apples = (1+p/100)CP

=( 1+20/100) 5x

=(1+1/5)5x

=6/5*5/x

=6x

Selling price of bananas= (1-l/100)CP

=(1-5/100)2x

=(1-1/20)2x

=(19/20)2x

=19x/10

According to the problem, Overall profit is Rs 360.

then SP of apples -SP of bananas=Rs 360

6x-19x/10 =360

(60x-19x)÷10 =360

41x =3600

x=3600÷41

x =87.80

that means he purchased 87.80 apples.
