Answer:

The total distance is 8.82 km .

Step-by-step explanation:

Total Time = 1 hour 24 minutes = 1+\frac{24}{60}=1.4 hour

Let the total distance be x

We are given that he covers two-third of the distance at 6 km/hour i.e. he travels \frac{2}{3}x of the distance at 6 km/hour.

Time = \frac{Distance}{Speed}=\frac{\frac{2}{3}x}{6}

We are given that the rest at 7 km/hr.i.e., \frac{1}{3}x  of the distance at 7 km/hour.

So, Time = \frac{Distance}{Speed}=\frac{\frac{1}{3}x}{7}

Total Time =  \frac{\frac{2}{3}x}{6}+\frac{\frac{1}{3}x}{7}

So, 1.4 = \frac{2}{18}x+\frac{1}{21}x

1.4 =\frac{10x}{63}

\frac{1.4 \times 63}{10}=x

8.82=x

Hence the total distance is 8.82 km .
