Studying is important because for knowledge to be useful, we have to 1) be able to retain it, so that 2) we can apply it.
The more knowledge you have, the better decisions you can presumably make, which will lead to a better life.
Studying can be reading, but it can also experiential. Experience-based studying tends to lead to better application of knowledge (wisdom).
They say it takes 10,000 hours of doing something to be an expert at it. That takes a great deal of dedication, but few would deny that being an expert at SOMEthing will make your life better.
Asian cultures highly value education. At least in part, I think this is because education is the main path in those countries for a better life. Historically, they have not had the robust capitalist systems that allow people with little education and money to start a business and succeed. More Western countries have that type of system, and the US values hard work at least as much education. Working yourself to success and learning yourself to success are both seen as valid paths.
I don’t think spirituality has anything to do with it.
me : ok mom I understood

Mother-why are you watching TV? Go and study!
Daughter-but mom, its my favourite tv show. I will study at night!
Mother- no. Your exams are near. You got only 75 percent marks in half yearly exams!
Daughter-i have prepared every subject. I have to just revise.!
Mother-i want you to get 100%, at least in final exams!
Daughter- yes, i think i will score 100% this time. I will watch it for only half hour, please let me watch it!
Mother-ok, but after that you will study for 3 hrs!
Daughter-ok mom sure!
