1 - Format your dialouge correctly -

  • Start a new line each time the speaker changes , and remembered to put a comma before a tag ('he/she said')

2 - Cut the filler -

  • leave out stock phrases we usually say ( e.g 'fline thanks and you ?') that don't add emotion or new information .

3- Make full use of conflict -

  • Adding conflict to your dialouge where relevant will increase untrigur and tension .

4- Involve goals , fears and desires -

  • What does each speaks want ? what are they terrified of ? How can speech convey their loves and hates ?

5-Include interesting subtext-

  • What feelings , suspicious , ulterior motives , or other subtle background elements filters into the conservation ?

6- Involve your characters' context -

  • How can ambient elements of your setting (sounds,mood and atmosphere ) be brought into the scene ?

7- Learn by copying out great dialouge -

  • When you read great dialouge , write it out (try to do this from memory ) . Take notes on what makes it work .
