How is it any more pure than graphite? There are three forms of pure carbon. The new discovery of bucky balls is the third. All three are pure carbon. Of course none of them is totally pure. A diamond can have inclusions, for example.
Furthermore, both graphite and diamonds have edges. Essentially, a diamond is the ultimate of an aliphatic structure and graphite the ultimate of an aromatic structure, and they don’t go on to infinity, so there is something combined with the atoms at the extremes. A bucky ball is a sphere, closed upon itself, so I would say that it, not a diamond, is really the purest form of carbon.

Diamond is a form of carbon if u leave the carbon in atmosphere it forms a compound with oxygen which is very tough n hard.
