diamond is used in glass industry for cutting glass because its tensile strength is more.It is a non metal but also it's tensile strength is more than any other metal and non metals.

We dont need tensile strength to measure abrasion resistance.

Majority of people knows that diamonds can cut glass. Why is that? This is primarily because diamonds are the hardest materials on our planet and because many diamonds are not suitable for jewelry purposes but are instead used for different other industrial purposes, including also for cutting glass.
However, diamonds aren't the only „stones“ that are capable to cut glass, glass can be for instance also cut with topaz and quartz.
In order to determine which material can cut glass and what can't we need to first know the data of these materials on Moh's scale of hardness.
SOME PROPERTIES OF DIAMOND ARE :
1.Colourless transparent substance with extra ordinary brilliance due to its high refractive index.
2.It's quite heavy. It's extremely hard. (Hardest substance known).
3.It's doesn't conduct electricity. (Due to absence of free ions).
4.It has high thermal conductivity and high melting point.
5.It burns on strong getting to form carbon dioxide.
