When Ranga returned from Bangalore after his studies, the narrator thought it was time the young man got married. But Ranga refused to marry because he believed that child marriage is an evil. He therefore wanted to remain bachelor till he found a mature woman to marry. But the narrator wanted to prove that romance could win over Ranga’s theories. The narrator brought a cute, young girl to Ranga’s notice and saw that Ranga fell in love instantly with her. As Ranga had already said that he could not marry a small girl, he could not openly admit that he loved Ratna. However, Ranga was sad and distressed. To make him openly admit his love for Ratna, the narrator brought Ranga to an astrologer. As planned earlier, the astrologer made fake calculations and said Ranga was sad because he was in love with a girl called Ratna. Unaware of what the narrator and the astrologer had conspired against him, Ranga confessed his love.
