Did the lack of observable parallax help convince astronomers Earth did not move?

True. The spatial relationship between stars didn't change. A few little points of light did move, so they were called 'planets', from a word meaning 'traveler'. The rest of the stars were thought to be embedded in a sphere with the earth in the center.
