Dietrich Brandis. Sir Dietrich Brandis KCIE FRS (31 March 1824 – 28 May 1907, Bonn) was a German-British botanist and forestry academic and administrator, who worked with the British Imperial Forestry Service in colonial India for nearly 30 years.

.Dietrich brandis was the first inspector general of forests in india.Dietrich brandis set up the indian forest service in 1864 and helped formulate the indian forest act in 1865. in 1906 imperial forest research institution was set up at dehradun and scientific forestry was introduced in india.
