Because it helps in clear excretion which is an important activity of all human beings, to prevent constipation. Dietary fibres (like roughage) should be included in our diet though it doesnt get digested.

fibres is in our proper nutrient diet and we should take always even if it is difficult to digest and but we can take it by making some juice of it .
