scalar quantity can never be zero and it is always positive but vector can be zero and it may or may not be negative . It's the major difference between these two .

Scalar quantity- a quantity which has got only magnitude and no direction is called a scalar quantity
eg:- distance,mass,time etc

Vector quantity- a quantity which has got both magnitude and direction is called a vector quantity

Eg:- displacement,force etc
