Classification survey => These are surveys carried out by classification society on behalf of the government to ensure that the vessel complies with relevant standards to be met for issue of certificates.
It is done to ensure that the ship deserves the certificate it holds.
It is done when a ship has been bought or when it has been taken for repairs and it needs to be checked if it still deserves the certification it holds.
Registration survey = > This is the process by which a ship is documented and given the Nationality of the country which the country has been documented.
This allows the ship to operate internationally as it is proof of ownership of the vessel.
Underwriter survey = > This is done by the insurance company in which a cover for the ship has been taken.
It is done at first entry randomly to ensure that the specifications and condo the ship have been put well in the policy document.
It is also done when a claim needs to be settled in case the ship is damaged as a way of ensuring that the cause was not intentional and that it is within the terms of the contract.
