Erect is to hold or stand something in upright position. Virtual means which cannot be caught in real world. The light rays spread in the outward direction and those light rays are not meeting in the point in space.
However these reflected rays that are moving outwards seem to be coming from a point behind the mirror. As the image is behind the mirror not formed in real world it is called virtual.
The image formed in the mirror apparently reversed from left to right and vice versa when compared with the object. This phenomenon is called lateral inversion.
