Any rock which do not permit oil, water, or gas to flow through it is known as an impervious rock whereas any porous rock in which oil, gas, or water may accumulate; usually sandstone, limestone, or dolomite, but sometimes fractured igneous or metamorphic rock is known as a reservoir rock.
