Panel makers offer different wide viewing angle panels like ADS, IPS, VA, and PLS panels. These panels extend the conventional displays from 170/160 to 178/178 degrees in LED TVs.

IPS or In-Plane Switching

In this the liquid crystals in the cells lie along the same plane always. They are parallel to the panel's plane always because of the transverse electric field. All the crystals of a cell rotate by 90 degrees when voltage is applied to the cell.

ADS or Advanced Plane-to-Line Switching

The infrastructure of the ADS panel is the same as PLS or Plane-to-Line Switiching. In this the liquid crystals lie along the same plane always, like IPS displays.

ADS is different from IPS because it uses a longitudinal electric field and a transverse electric field for parallel liquid crystal movement.
