→Dilute base is used.
→takes place only in α-hydrogen containing Aldehydes and ketones.
→The final product is a β-hydroxy ketone.
→2nd order reaction.
Cannizaro condensation :
→Concentrated base is used.
→takes place only in Aldehydes without α-hydrogens.
→there are 2 products formed namely an acid and an alcohol.
→It is a 3rd order Disproportionation reaction.
