an ac generator
it convert mechanical energy to electrical energy .
it works on the principle of electromagnetic induction .
in an AC generator the mechanical energy is used in rotating the coil in a magnetic field so as to produce the electrical energy.
it makes use of two separate coaxial slip rings.
d. c generator
it's convert electrical energy to mechanical energy.
it work on the principle of force acting on a current carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field.
in a d. c motor, the electrical energy is provided by the d. c source to flow current in the coil placed in a magnetic field due to which the coil rotates ,i. e., mechanical energy is obtained.
it makes use of two parts of a slip rings ( split rings ) which act as a commutator.
