area is space or region and volume refers to capacity

One the main difference is Area is measured in square units , and Volume is measured in cubic units .
And some other differences are :-

#Area is a two-dimensional measurement of the surface of an object.
Volume is a three-dimensional measurement of how much space an object takes up. 

# Area describes the amount of space enclosed, whereas volume determines the capacity of solids.
