Autosomes include all the chromosomes except the sex chromosomes.

  • Humans have 22 pairs of autosome wheres the number of sex chromosomes is present one in pair ( XX in females and XY in males).
  • The morphology of the autosomes is same in male and females where as sex chromosomes have different morphology in males and females.
  • Autosomes do not show any sex linkage whereas sex linkage is present in allosomes.
  • Autosomes are responsible for the general characteristics of the individual whereas allosomes are responsible for the sexual characteristics of an individual.
