Autotrophic mode of nutrition refers to being able to make one's own food. It's also called self-nourishment. The organisms which prepare their own food are called autotrophs. Example: plants, algae, etc.

Heterotrophic mode of nutrition refers to the practise of depending on other organisms for food. These organisms which feed on others are called heterotrophs. Example: lion, tiger, human, deer, etc.

Autotrophs are the organisms that synthesise their own food with the help of substances available in the surroundings .

Whereas , heterotrophs are those organisms which rely (or dependent) on other organisms, i.e., both plants and animals .

Example for autotrophs are plants and examples for heterotrophs are any herbivores , carnivores or omnivores like human beings.
