Here are the differences between boiling and evaporation -:
Boiling
- It occurs at a fixed temperature.
- It is a bulk phenomenon. All the particles gain kinetic energy and turn into gaseous at once.
- It occurs faster than evaporation.
- It doesn't cause a cooling effect at the end.
Evaporation
- It can occur at any temperature below the boiling point.
- It is a surface phenomenon. Particles on the surface of a liquid have a lesser intermolecular force and even after absorbing a little heat from the surrounding, the particles gain kinetic energy and are able to break away and convert into gaseous form.
- It occurs slower than boiling.
- It causes a cooling effect.
