Answer:

Life of Mahavira:

• Vardhaman Mahavira was born at Kundalagram near Vaishali in Bihar

in 540 B.C. His father, Siddhartha, was the chief of the Jhatrika clan of

Kshatriyas. His mother, Trishla, belonged to the powerful Lichchhavi

tribe.

• At the age of thirty he gave up the life of ease and comfort and left

palace in search of truth.

• For 12 long years, he did hard penance and meditation. At the age of

42, he gained true knowledge. He came to be known as the master of

Kevalajnana (true knowledge), or the Mahavira (the great Hero).

• He was also hailed as the Jina, or the conqueror of the self. That is

why his followers are called Jains.

• Mahavira died in Pawa, in South Bihar, at the age of 72, when his

fame had spread far and wide.

Mahavira is often called the founder of Jainism, but Jains believe that the 23 previous tirthankaras also espoused it. Although Mahavira is sometimes placed in Parshvanatha's lineage, this is contradicted by texts stating that Mahavira renounced the world alone. Parshvanatha was born 273 years before Mahavira.who redeemeth all from the bonds of attachment, temptations and hatred by his detached yet alluring words, O Ye, Lord Mahavira, I bow to thee in reverence and worship so as to be able to achieve the good and the virtuous," said the first century Jain monk Kundakundacharya, one of the earliest known teachers and annotators of the Jain dogma. The statement reveals three aspects of Lord Mahavira : his form; width of intuitive vision; and, power to redeem from the cycle of life and death.
