Answer:

Caged bird is a metaphor for the African -Americans and their confinement. The caged bird constantly watches down his cage longing for a free flight. His vision of freedom is restricted. The bird is imprisoned and is full of rage.It is furious at the same time helpless. He is enslaved and all he can do is to open his throat to sing his song of freedom.Enslavement is represented by the caged bird. The poet expresses her grievances and agonies through the restricted flight of the caged bird. The African- Americans lived in poverty till 1965. They were denied social, cultural and religious freedom

The free bird refers to the white race and their dominations. The free bird flies gracefully in the sky dipping it's wings in the orange rays of the sun. This is the natural habitat of freedom of the free bird.Orange sun rays is a symbolic of happiness . The free bird's flight is unrestricted and he is confident enough to claim the sky.The free bird flies as if the sky belongs to him.He is greedy and not contended. He desires to have fat worms. This is a symbolic of enjoyment, luxury and freedom that that white race enjoyed during that time.
