CARBURETOR 
Carburetor basically works upon Bernoulli's principle and Equation of continuity. Air enters through the choke valve (during cold starting this valve is nearly closed to make the mixture rich) into the venturi. Near the narrowest section of the venturi an orifice is their which is connected to the float chamber in which the level of fuel is maintained by the help of needle valve. At this narrowest section pressure is less than the atmospheric pressure due to which fuel flows from float chamber into the venturi. 

Finally the mixture is led to the engine via throttle/butterfly valve which is being operated by the pedal. Carburetor mechanism is comprehensible unlike fuel injected systems. But the problem the fuel take some time to vaporize completely but at high R.P.M we want this process to be fast.
In cold weather this process becomes sluggish leading to stall. 

FUEl INJECTED SYSTEMS
Fuel injected systems were introduced to remove the hurdle that we are facing due to carburetors. High pressure fuel pump supply the requisite amount of fuel to the injectors through which the fuel is injected into the engine. Vaporisation is not a problem now because the atomization of fuel is possible.

In GDI engines the fuel droplet generated after atomization is equal to 1/8 of the diameter of your hair.

Talking about the latest fuel injected systems used are either MPFI or GDI in gasoline engines. The engine management system(EMS) took data from electronic control unit (ECU) about the current engine speed and load conditions and calculate the amount of fuel to be injected through the fuel injectors.

With the advent of technology GDI engines are considered more reliable as it meets our requirement more closely but the high cost of injectors creates problem.
