As per the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) the terminology supplementary and compartment means the same and are interchangeable. Any student who fails in the CBSE 10th board exam or the 12th board exam in any subject is offered to appear once again in the exam to improve which is called the Supplementary/compartment exam.
