12-16 compounds : Compounds formed b/w group 12 elements with elements with elements of group 16 are called 12-16 compounds.

Eg : ZnS,Hg,Te etc

13-15 compounds : Compounds formed b/w elements of grou 13 with group 15 elements are called 13-15 compounds.

Eg : GaAs,AlP etc

Combination of elements of groups 12 and 16 yield some solid compounds which, are referred to as 12-16 compounds.

Example :- ZnS , CdS , CdSe , HgTe etc.

In these compounds, the bonds have ionic character.
