the major difference between the compost and fertilizer are :
fertilizer are produced in factories, made up of chemicals,take less time for their formation and excessive use can change their chemical quality...
manures are made by decomposition of dead and decay matter,take long time for their formation,and excessive use will not harm the soil,enhances the water retaining capacity of the soil...!
