Convectional rainfall occurs when the earth's surface in moist atmosphere becomes heated more than its sarrounding and in turn leading to significant evaporation while orographic rainfall occurs when upward motion is forced when a moving air mass encounters the rising slope of a landform such as a mountain.

Convectional rainfall takes place in the equatorial regions while orographic rainfall takes place in mountainous regions.

Convectional rainfall is caused by vertical ascent of heated air while orographic rainfall is caused when the mountain forces the air to rise along the up slopes to the mountain.
