Heya!!
The difference between dielectrics and insulators is that insulators do not allow charges to flow through them whereas dielectrics are insulators which conducts when exposed to an external electric field.

Dielectrics:

  1. The material in which an electric field can develop with the minimum loss of energy is known as the dielectric.
  2. Polarize in an electric field.
  3. Weakly bonded as compared to the insulator.
  4. Dielectric constant - High
  5. Store the charges
  6. Example: Dry air, vacuum, distill water etc.
  7. Application: Capacitor, power cable etc.

Insulators:

  1. The substance which have low conductivity and which create obstruction in the flow of current in known as the insulator.
  2. Can not polarize
  3. Covalent Bond
  4. Dielectric constant - Low
  5. Obstruction to the charges.
  6. Examples: Cotton, plastic, mica etc.
  7. Application: Conducting wires, in high voltage system etc.
