Diffusion ==>

Diffusion is the net passive movement of particles (atoms, ions or molecules) from a region in which they are in higher concentration to regions of lower concentration. It continues until the concentration of substances is uniform throughout.

Osmosis==>

movement of a solvent (such as water) through a semipermeable membrane (as of a living cell) into a solution of higher solute concentration that tends to equalize the concentrations of solute on the two sides of the membrane.

Osmosis

1)It is limited only to liquid medium

2)Reauires a semi permiable membrane.

3)Depends on the number of solute particles dissolved in solvent.

4)Require water for movement of particles.

5)Only the solvent molecules can diffuse.

Diffusion

1) Occurs in all mediums (solid liquid and gas)

2) Don't require a semipermeable membrane.

3) Depends on presence of other particles.

4) Don't require water for the movement of particles.

5) Both molecules of solute and solvent can diffuse.

\large{\underline{\underline{\mathbf{Diffusion:-}}}}

\implies It is passive movement of materials. movement of solutes Or ions from higher concentration to lower concentration is called diffusion.

\implies Diffusion can occur in any medium.

\implies The diffusing molecules may be solids, liquid or gases.

\implies Semipermeable membrane is not required.

\implies It is dependent upon the free energy of the molecules of diffusing substance only, presence of other substances in the system is of no importance.

\implies An equilibrium in the free energy of diffused molecules is achieved in the system.

\large{\underline{\underline{\mathbf{Osmosis:-}}}}

\implies It is passive movement. the movement of solvent or water from its higher concentration to lower concentration is called osmosis.

\implies It occur only in liquid medium.

\implies It involves movement of solvent molecules only.

\implies Semipermeable membrane is required.

\implies Though it is the diffusion of solvent molecules only, yet influenced by the presence of other substances (solutes) in the system.

\implies Equilibrium in the free energy of solvent molecules is never achieved.
