Difference between digital signal and discrete signal

Signal-basically a voltage variations by which we convert information into electric form.
Signal have been divided into two categories
1) Digital signal - Voltage variation is constant means continuously repeat it self between two values.
2)Analogue or here used term Discrete signal- voltage variations is not constant instead randomly change in voltage.

A discrete time signal which is not quantized can take any value in the given range (i.e. infinite options for the amplitude) where as a digital signal can take any value from a predefined finite set of amplitudes.

For example, if a signal is in range 0-5 volts; a discrete time signal (not quantized) can take values like 0.2, 0.02, 0.0005, 2, 4 etc. (just anything in the range 0-5 volts).

But if it is uniformly quantized with say N quantization levels, then range 0-5 will be divided into N equal parts, each part will be
assigned one value (which is in the range of that specific part), hence giving a set of N amplitude values. The digital signal can take any value out of these N values only ( and not just any value).
