difference between displacement and distance

Displacement refers to the shortest distance between the point where we had started and the point where we had stopped or finished moving.
Distance on the other hand refers to the pathways wherever we had gone covering the area including the finished point.

For example:-
A is a point from where we started walking and we walked in a circular motion covering the semi circle, finishing at point B. Then the physical distance walked between A and B is distance. And the semi circle distance, that is the shortest distance between A and B is displacement.
