Double displacement reaction

1)Those reactions in which 2 compounds react by an exchange of ions to form 2 new compound, called double displacement reaction.

example:-

Na2SO4 + BaCl2----> BaSO4 + 2NaCl

Precipitation reaction

1) any reaction in which an insoluble solid is formed that separates from solution is called a precipitation reaction.

Example:-

BaCl2+ CuSO4-----> BaSO4 + CuCl2

White precipitation is formed in this reaction.

In double displacement reaction exchange of ions takes place between two compounds.

Also decompostion reactions are mostly endothermic and also produce ppts mostly.

While in precipitation it may or may not be endothermic

Also it cannot be said that all precipitation reactions are double displacement only.
