  • In context of consolidation, drained soil indicates that the water is allowed to escape out means pore pressure releasing do occur there and this shows that the primary consolidation has been achieved  pore pressure decreases if drainage is allowed and meanwhile (effective stress increases).
  • Whereas in many test the drainage has been restricted to know and understand the behaviour of pore pressure like in triaxial test both drained and undrained test could be conducted
  • Soil from which water drains out easily is called drained soil. These are generally sandy soils. Undrained soil have clay and organic material and does not allow water to infiltrate.
