hey,
The anion gap is the difference between the concentration of sodium and its main anions, chloride and bicarbonate, and normally ranges between 8 and 12 mEq/L. An elevated anion gap indicates that a metabolic acidosis has been caused at least in part by the presence of an acid with an unmeasured anion.
