Evaporation increases with an increase in temperature

This makes the molecules escape faster. Higher temperatures lead to increase in vaporization as more molecules get kinetic energy to convert into vapor. For example, boiling water evaporates faster than fresh tap water.

Difference between Evaporation and Boiling.

  • Evaporation is the process of changing liquid into its gaseous state while Boiling refers to the time when liquid changes into vapour and vapour pressure is equal to the surrounding pressure.
  • Evaporation can take place at any temperature while boiling take place at a specific temperature which is known as the boiling point of the substance.
  • Evaporation only affects the top layer so it is a surface phenomenon while boiling is a buck phenomenon as it take place in whole liquid
  • Evaporation is a slow process while boiling is a much faster process.
  • Liquid doesn't form bubbles in evaporation but in boiling they do form bubbles.

Factors on which evaporation depends on :

  • Wind Speed- Higher wind speed helps in increasing the rate of evaporation. As the particles are able to escape with the wind.

  • Humidity- high humidity decreases the rate of evaporation. As the air around us can hold only a certain amount of vapour, high humidity shows that large amount of water vapour is already present in air, So, it can't hold much vapour.

  • Surface area- Larger surface area helps in increasing the rate of evaporation. As the space increases, more particles will be able to escape.

  • Temperature- higher temperature helps in increasing the rate of evaporation. As in the higher temperature, more molecules will get kinetic energy to escape.
