The tongue is defined as a muscular organ, present in mouth that helps in mastication and swallowing of food. The tongue is divided into front and back part.

  • The front part of the tongue is narrow and thin whereas the back part of the tongue is wide.
  • The anterior part of the tongue is is directed forward against the lingual surfaces and the posterior part of the tongue is directed backward which is connected to the hyoid bone by muscles.
  • The number of taste buds are more at the anterior part of the tongue as compared to the posterior part.
