general election on the fixed interval of time but midterm election occurs before or after the fixed time due to any emergency.

General Elections: It is held all over the country at the same time either on a single day or in a few weeks.
mid term elections:If the govt fails due to lack of confidence or lands in any illegal case and its term is still not completed then mid term elections take place.
