Parasitic plants depend on other plants for food, water, shelter and nutrition. They don't have long roots instead they take support from their host plant. They cant do the process of photosynthesis because they don't have chlorophyll.
ex: cuscuta
Host plants make their own food, have long roots and have chlorophyll which is why they can do the process of photosynthesis. They live independently.
ex: banyan
