 Advantages and Role in Green Revolution of India. High Yielding Variety Seeds (HYV seeds) are seeds are of better quality than normal quality seeds. These seeds are a better option of seeds in order to obtain a healthy and surplus crop.

Dormant Seeds

Seed dormancy is an evolutionary adaptation that prevents seeds from germinating during unsuitable ecological conditions that would typically lead to a low probability of seedling survival.

(i) The key difference between HYV seeds and traditional seeds is that HYV seeds produce higher yielding varieties with better quality and environmental adoption while traditional seeds produce lower yielding varieties with normal quality and less environmental tolerance. In other words, HYV seeds produce higher crop yield per area whereas traditional seeds are normal quality seeds with regular crop yield.

(ii) HYV seeds show a high reliance on irrigation and fertilizers, early maturation, and resistance to many diseases in contrast to traditional seeds.

(iii) HYV seeds are expensive as compared to traditional seeds.
