In the British rule period of India :
The Indian States were divided into two parts :
• The Provinces
and
• The Princely states
The province were ruled by the British officials appointed by the Viceroy .
The Princely states were ruled by the heridatry king of that Region .
Eg of provinces : Madras , Bombay
Eg of princely states : Pataudi , Kashmir.
