Ionisation enthalpy ,indicates the stability of electronic configuration. Ionisation enthalpy or ionisation energy is the amount of energy required to remove most loosely bound electron from valence shel of isolated gaseous atom. It is expressed in KJ per atom. It is difficult to remove an electron from fulfilled or halffilled orbital,as it seems to be more stable due to large exchange energy. Thus ionisation enthalpy records high for such elements. i.e. first ionisation enthalpy of nitrogen is greater than oxygen.

Ionisation potential is the amount of energy required ,expressed in electron volt per atom ,to remove most loosely bound electron from valence shell of isolated gaseous atom.
