Isotonic contractions generate force by changing the length of the muscle and can be concentric contractions or eccentric contractions. Isometric contractions generate force without changing the length of the muscle.

skeletal muscle contractions and either isometric in which the muscle does not change its length,or isotonic,in which muscle changes its length with increasing tension once the load is exceeded, contraction can then be used to shorten the muscle and move the load
