Difference between leishman stain and giemsa stain are:

Leishman staining method provides better visualisation of the nuclear chromatin pattern of cells.
Leishman stain is used for staining blood in microscopy and its purpose is to both identify and differentiate trypanosomas, leucocytes and malarial parasites.

Giesma staining is most commonly used.Giesma is used to stain the DNA region specifically chromosomes in order to locate rearrangement and translocations.

Leishman staining method is a good alternative to the Giesma staining method for quantification of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax parasitemia.

In the thick smear preparation Giesma stain was subjectively superior to Leishman stain .

Red cells stained with Giesma stain result in more bluish tinge than with Leishman stain.

Leishman stain was superior to Giesma stain for the morphologic assessment of leukocytes.
The fineness of chromatin pattern and colour of the nucleus was clearer with Leishman stain compared to Giesma stain.
